May the Word be with you!
‘The pen is mightier than the sword’, is an old adage from long deceased English Author Edward Bulwer-Lytton. He certainly had a point when he came up with this. Let’s face it, words have reduced the toughest to tears, brought down governments and broken those who would not break. The words we use, and how we use them can cause pain or joy. Words are charged with energy to heal or to hurt. Sometimes we speak without truly thinking about what we are saying, often saying the first thing that comes into our head. Words are a wonderful resource when chosen wisely but can wreak havoc if not.
However, words chosen carefully, and used well, with thought and diplomacy can be more effective than the use of weapons in war, which I think is what Bulwer-Lytton was perhaps trying to convey. We string words together as a means of communication and connection. The power of the ‘Word’ is a wonderful thing, and it is that which us aspiring Writers want to harness when we put pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard. The Words we choose to use may transport us to beautiful destinations and faraway places, and with that in mind may you find just the right words now and always!
